Protecting Your Baby Or Toddler's Skin In The Winter

Winter air can be tough on babies and can cause discomfort and dryness. There are some tips and tricks that parents must follow to keep their baby's skin soft and safe from harsh winter weather.

Short baths:
Don’t let your little one spend too much time in the baths as it causes your skin to dry. It is okay if you do not give them bath daily, especially the newborn babies. A quick wipe with a wet cloth is sufficient for no-bath days. Keep the water lukewarm instead of hot.

Soaps:
It is hard to resist using the sweet-smelling soaps but using fragrance beauty soap causes the skin to get dry. It is better to use moisturized soaps so the baby’s skin can stay unharmed and after cleaning them pat dry them, do not rub the towel.

Hydrate:
Babies should remain focused on breastfeeding between the ages of 4-6months. Getting plenty of breast milk or formula milk can keep hydrated and full of nutrients. Toddlers should have a good amount of water intake. It is important to maintain a good and healthy diet for infants and toddlers.

Moisturizer:
Moisturizers can be very helpful in preventing dry skin. Kids have sensitive skin so it is best to invest in moisturizers that contain oil and water and no fragrance or chemical additives. Use a moisturizer on the baby after the bath while baby’s skin is slightly damp. Hydrate baby skin twice a day.

Indoor heating:
Don’t overheat your house as low temperatures can causes chapped skin. To get rid of the cold, keep the house temperature comfortable enough that you or your baby does not chill. Overheated house causes skin to dry out even more. You cna also use a dehumidifier to keep in indoor temperature breathable and fresh.

Skin sensitive laundry soap:
Laundry soaps can also make your babies skin dry as it contains chemicals and strong fragrance. Use baby friendly and fragrance free laundry soap to get rid of the dryness.
