According to a study in London, more than 700 parents were questioned about the screen time their children have and their sleeping patterns. According to the results, the researchers found out that those kids who use mobiles and devices at night time, sleep lesser. Regardless of their day time naps, the gadget users sleep lesser at night and also take time falling asleep.

Sleep is very important for cognitive development, especially in the early stages of a child. Did you know that 75% of toddlers (kids aging between 6 months and 3 years) use touch screen devices on daily basis and for every hour they spend on using those devices during the day, kids sleep for 16 minutes less in every 24 hour period.

These results show us that the accessibility and popularity of smart devices have increased the usage level among babies and toddlers and also associates with lesser sleep. More researches are now needed to help experts understand whether these smart devices are causing sleep trouble and what types of usage may reduce these risks.

Moreover, on the bright side, according to another research, studies showed that the increased usage of active touch screen use, which includes, scrolling instead of only watching videos, is associated with improving the motor skills in babies. However, experts believe that there has to be a thorough study of this aspect too in order to find out the potential benefits of screen usage instead of totally restricting it.
