Breastfeeding Guide for First Month


The initial days and weeks after the birth of the baby, breastfeeding is often a very struggling phase. Getting your baby to latch on your breast and making sure they stay on. The courage to keep going on despite having problems during breastfeeding is something that every new mom faces. 

Here are some breastfeeding issues that you might go through in the first month of your breastfeeding.

Getting a good latch:

  • Without a proper latch, your baby might not be able to get sufficient feed and can develop sore or cracked nipples. Here is what you need to do to get your baby a good latch:
  • Position your baby so he is lying on his side and the belly flush against yours.
  • Prop up the baby with the pillow and hold him against your breast and don’t lean towards him.
  • Use your free hand to get a better grip for the feeding.
  • Tilt your baby’s head if you are unable to get the proper latch.
  • When the baby’s mouth is wide open, scoop the breast in the mouth making sure that the latch is good enough.
  • Tilt the baby’s head forward and make sure the entire nipple is inside the baby’s mouth.
