Breastfeeding Moms And Colic Babies

When you notice long hours of gut-wrenching crying of your baby, you know that your baby is in pain and that pain is Colic. Anyone who has faced the colic issues in their babies can totally relate with all the tension that comes along.

Many new moms ask this question when their babies face colic issues that it must be their diet that is causing the problem. Maybe it is the dark chocolate or the cup of coffee you had last night. You must understand what colic is and why is it caused:

Colic is basically defined by doctors as an unknown condition that makes the baby cry for more than three hours per day and lasts up until 3 days per week or maybe more. The entire problem of colic begins from the time of birth and is usually resolved until the age of 3-4 months.

What Causes Colic?

Many theories try to explain colic. It is usually caused by too much stimulation in the last trimester of pregnancy. After the baby is born, during the initial 4 months fussy babies want you to hold them, rock them and shush them just like the feeling they used to get inside the womb. Moreover, 10% of the time a baby’s scream is set off by a formula allergy through dairy product or an acid flux.

Can Breastfeeding Cause Colic Among Babies?

If a baby is crying endlessly for no obvious reason, it is up to the newly nursing mom to check if whatever she is eating is affecting the baby or not.

Sometimes, the diet is affecting the baby and is not suiting them which make them colic. Usually, that is the case. Whatever you eat, the food molecules drift into your milk. If your baby is sensitive or allergic to those foods then the crying will proceed.  Due to this problem, mommies are advised to cut down the allergens from their diets such as milk or soy. Once they improve their diet, baby health is also improved within 3-5 days.

According to a study, breastfeeding mother whose infants were experiencing colic issues eliminated allergens from their diet for a week and it resulted in 25% reduced crying and fussiness.

Sometimes, the solution is within the mommy herself- if nothing else works, try changing the diet to help them soothe their colic babies.
