You wait for 9 months until your baby is born and you take care of yourself a lot during your pregnancy, however once the baby arrives under circumstances of pandemic, you wonder how to look after the baby and how to keep him safe?

How To Protect Newborns When They Get Home?

Bringing the baby home is an exciting feeling for the parents and the family members too. But these days, limit yourself and maintain social distance so you are not exposing your little one to any risks of infections. Don’t let new people come near your baby until the pandemic is resolved. You can use social media apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp or Zoom to introduce your child among your friends and relatives. Those present in the house, must wash their hands and handle the baby with extra care. If someone in your house has any symptoms of COVID then isolate that person from the baby and the entire family. Do not take the baby outside to prevent any kind of virus exposure. Make sure you do all the shopping online.

If mother has COVID-19 and she is breastfeeding, will it be transferred to the baby?

Breastfeeding is not linked with COVID-19 transmission. At this point in time, virus is not detached in the breast milk, thus it is not transferable to the baby. However, there is no evidence to be completely certain.

How to keep a baby safe if mother has COVID-19?

Mothers are very close to the babies especially when they nursing the baby and it become impossible to avoid the transmission. COVID-19 is transmitted through small respiratory droplets. If moms are suspected with the virus, they must use breast pumps to express the milk and properly wash their hands before and after milk expression. Then someone who isn’t sick can feed the baby.
