Choosing The Right Feeding Bottle For Your Little One

Before the birth of your baby, you will be choosing which feeding bottles to buy. Moreover, you will also decide which teat will best suit your little one. Once you know what type and size of bottles and teats you want for your baby, your life will be at so much ease!

Here are some basic things that you must keep in mind before going feeding bottle shopping for your infant:

Choosing The Right Bottles

Material: It is up to you if you want to buy glass or plastic bottle for your baby. Bottles also come with bottle sleeve which makes it easier to hold and grip during the feed.

Plastic bottles are unbreakable and easy to use but they also deteriorate with time. It is recommended that you change your baby’s feeding bottle within 4-6 months. On the other hand, glass bottles can be used as long as they don’t chip, crack or break. However, glass bottles are heavy in weight and might be hard for your baby’s little hands to hold on to.

Make sure that the feeding bottles you buy are BPA free and anti colic to make sure that your baby doesn’t face any tummy or colic issues.

Age, range and size: For new born babies 125ml or 4 ounce bottles are a good start. After 1 month you can use 260ml or 9 ounce bottle for up to 4 months. After the age of 6 months, you can switch to 330 ml or 11 ounce bottle.

Consider these precautions:

  • Always clean baby bottles in sterilizers so the bottles are germ free from inside out. Clean the bottles with a bottle brush and warm soapy water.
  • Do not store formula milk in the plastic bottles for a longer period of time. Use bottle warmers to warm the baby milk.
  • Always discard the scratched or worn out plastic bottles as they might release chemicals and can be harmful for the baby.

Bottom Line:

Make sure you buy the correct size and shape of the feeding bottle for your little one. Once you know which type of bottle your baby is used to, you can keep on buying the same in different sizes in future.
