First Trimester Pregnancy

Welcome to the first stage of parenting. Growing your baby inside yourself! 9 months may seem like a very long time but the time just flies by as there are so much important things to do. Here are some of the goals that you must try to achieve in the first trimester:

Fix your body!

Your body is where your baby will stay for 9 months. You must use all the nutrition required as your body can use it and feed it to help your baby’s growth and development inside. The body reacts according to the way you feel- emotions play an important role. Whether you are feeling positive or negative, your body chemistry changes too. Hence, babies face the similar changes. Female bodies are naturally miraculous as they nurture the life inside them from a small seed to an infant. All you need to do is support your body!

  • Providing best growth environment for your baby:
  • Eat well and often. You must fulfill all the nutrition needs that your body requires.  You should be taking in more of yogurt and sweet potatoes instead of coffee and Danish items.
  • Vitamins especially folic and Omega 3 are essential for brain development.
  • Reduce toxins from your diet such as smoking, caffeine and other food additives. They are hazardous for the baby.
  • Reduce stress and stay happy! Your baby will feel it.
  • Meditate or do relaxation exercises to stay healthy. Exercise teaches you to relax and reduce stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol and increase love harmonies like oxytocin. This is a very good practice which will help you before birth. Here are some activities to avoid during pregnancy.
  • Sleep as much as you can. Your body needs it. Also find out why sleep is important for new moms.

Choose the best possible support for your pregnancy:

Choose a doctor and hospital that you want your baby to begin its life in.  Start researching or take help from family and friends in choosing the best option for your pregnancy care, baby delivery and other services.

Educate yourself:

As you embark on this sacred journey of pregnancy, use all the available online resources as much as you can. Learn the basics and focus on them. Do not obsess yourself with the information, it might confuse you or make you over think.

Train yourself to become a mother:

Becoming a mother is not all physical work but psychological too. Ask yourself questions. Are you nervous or excited? How will you balance work and family? Remember, the feedback you will get from yourself is all natural. If you feel that you are worrying yourself, re-frame your worry as an opportunity and listen to your intuition and make changes accordingly. Overcome fear and reframe it as excitement. Issues such as breastfeeding or bottle feeding, home birth or hospital are such that can be discussed with your mother, your partner or a friend. Make sure you do not dwell upon these issues and make yourself stressful. Remind yourself that you always have a helping hand to work things out.

Connect with your baby:

There is always a soul communication between a mother and her child, even before the child is born. This is the perfect time to nurture this important relationship by embracing your baby emotionally and physically. Talk and sing aloud to the baby inside you. Promise that you will nurture, love and accept your child and never stop being the mother you think you are.
